ACCESS LAB
The ACCESS lab at Daphne High School is used for conference meetings, teacher inservices, and virtual field trips. The technology in this lab is very up-to-date and intimidating for most teachers. Mr. Roh mentioned some draw backs to using the lab. Teachers must teach outside of their classroom. If they want to use the lab they must haul all of their supplies across campus. The teacher and their students must walk quite a long distance to get to this lab. Some of the teachers are not comfortable with this technology just because of lack of experience using it.
I think that this is wonderful technology that educators must embrace to prepare their students for the future. The ACCESS lab consists of a Promethean Board, document viewer, large UFO looking microphone, two video cameras, and two large wall mounted monitors. One teacher can teach up to 3 other schools at once. When a student raises his/her had the teacher can zoom in on that student via a computer monitor. On the wall mounted monitor you see a close up of the student with the question. This was an interesting visit.
